# historiai.health — the inquiries

A reference database of ancient history: lives, deeds, and times, told
from the old historians themselves, served verbatim from named
public-domain editions. Figure-keyed the way a portrait hall is — you
stand in a room facing a person, and every claim carries a receipt
tracing it to the text it stands on.

- /figures — the curated hall of lives; /figure/<slug> is a life's room (e.g. /figure/themistocles)
- /events — the deeds, year-anchored where the curator has passed; /event/<slug> (e.g. /event/salamis-480 — homonyms carry their disambiguation on the page: three wars answer to "Salamis")
- /timeline and /era/<slug> — the editor's table of years (Clinton's chronology apparatus, receipted; the ancient record does not date itself — the frame is always labeled the editor's)
- /works and /work/<slug> — the shelf: Herodotus (Godley), Plutarch's Parallel Lives (Perrin); /work/<slug>/<ref> reads one episode verbatim (e.g. /work/hdt-histories/7.223)
- /search — one box, every drawer: the address shelves by name, the served record by full text

## The three honest tiers (labeled on every surface)
- curated rooms — the curator has passed; merges, splits, and homonyms judged and receipted
- receipted witnesses — every attestation names its episode, work, and edition; the reader link lands on the verbatim text
- first-pass counts — mention counts are counted by the house's first pass, not judged; candidate entries say so plainly

## Machine door
- /api/v1/* serves JSON over the record (figures, events, timeline,
  episodes, search) to the estate's own desks, keyed by house token. The
  PUBLIC agent door — open tools and an MCP desk in the sisters' pattern —
  comes with a later wave. Until then, these pages are the public record;
  they are stable, addressable, and citable by URL.

## License posture
Public-domain text only, served verbatim with its translator and edition
credited; the license is verified before ingest, or the text does not
load. Cite by author and work — the houses are places, never people.
