A receipt records what the house consulted and what it did not establish. The open state is part of the record, not a defect in it.

- Apparatus shelf — Diogenes Laertius, Lives of Eminent Philosophers, vol. I (R. D. Hicks translation, Loeb L184)R. D. Hicks, Loeb Classical Library, London: William Heinemann / New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, MCMXXV (1925)license: public-domain (US: published 1925, pre-1930 — the MCMXXV title page verified by the 2026-07-08 acquisition lane, pin in ops/sources/MANIFEST.md; only the English rectos are served, Hicks's translation)pinned: ops/sources/books/Diogenes Laertius - Lives of Eminent Philosophers [I (Books 1-5, Loeb L184)] (archive.org).pdf sha256 bf9cc686b52dce9f44db81111966db06428cb9250831a0699653380ee3f8cf3d (md5 cross-checked against the acquisition fetch log; see ops/sources/MANIFEST.md); extraction profile dl1-loeb-v1 (ops/pipeline/); NOTE: the TRUE volume I (archive.org livesofeminentph01diog, body opens with the Prologue/Thales and ends inside Book V) — the original fetch-run file labeled vol. I is a duplicate scan of vol. II; completes the author: vol. II (Books VI-X) was poured in W6
- Perseus Digital Library — Tacitus, The Histories (Church & Brodribb translation)Alfred John Church & William Jackson Brodribb (Macmillan, 1864, per the TEI header's own imprint); Perseus Project digital editionlicense: public-domain (the Church & Brodribb translation, 1864); Perseus digital edition CC BY-SA, attribution recorded per ops/corpus-staging/SOURCES.md patternpinned: github.com/PerseusDL/canonical-latinLit @ 76b87b04b36afe2cbcd70e285b4ceb248b103438 (fetched 2026-07-08 by the acquisition lane at the same pinned commit as the Annals, tac-perseus-v1; pin in ops/sources/MANIFEST.md); file data/phi1351/phi004/phi1351.phi004.perseus-eng1.xml sha256 398134f68e7e7a775b36573740cf225be928d570e297b1af6ba556c5e33b971c; profile tac-hist-perseus-v1 (ops/pipeline/). Completes Tacitus: the Annals were poured in W6b; the shelf's 'Annals and Histories' B&N 2005 scan contains the Annals only (W6 probe) — the Histories text exists in the house through this pin alone
Tacitus, The Histories (Church & Brodribb; 389 chapter-unit episodes == the canon's 389, 98,477 tokens — the Annals were served in W6b, completing the author); Diogenes Laertius, Lives of Eminent Philosophers vol. I Books I-V (Hicks 1925 Loeb; 274 page-unit episodes cited by the edition's own running-head section ranges, 71,399 tokens — vol. II was served in W6, completing the author). Licenses verified at STAGE 0 (the Church & Brodribb Histories is an 1864 Macmillan publication per its own TEI header; the Hicks Loeb vol. I is a 1925 printing, title page verified at acquisition). Deterministic per-book extraction profiles (ops/pipeline/profile_*.py) with canon count-validation: the Histories' 389 chapters equal the canon (90+101+86+86+26) exactly and contiguously; Diogenes Laertius vol. I is served page-unit by the Loeb's own running-head section ranges, its book finals frozen from the scan's own heads (122/144/109/67/94 == the canonical section counts of Books I-V). Both works complete authors already on the shelves: Tac. Ann. (W6b) + Tac. Hist. (W8) = Tacitus' two major works; D.L. Books VI-X (W6) + Books I-V (W8) = the complete Lives. Episode membership rides episode.receipt_id = receipt:corpus-w8.
What this does not prove- The served voices are the translations (Church & Brodribb 1864 for the Histories, Hicks 1925 for Diogenes Laertius), not the Latin or Greek; original_text is NULL (no alignment is fabricated).
- Histories fidelity is to the Perseus digital edition at the pinned commit (perseus-eng1), not to any manuscript; Perseus' own transcription errors, if any, are served as published. Only Books I-V survive in the manuscript tradition (the text breaks off in Book V); this is the complete extant work, not an excerpt decision.
- Diogenes Laertius vol. I episodes are PAGE-unit, cited by the Loeb's own running-head section ranges — not a section-unit segmentation; 25 OCR-damaged heads take their spans from clean neighbors (flagged in dl1.works.json), so isolated refs may be off by a section at the edges.
- The D.L. text is the 2022 Internet Archive scan's OCR layer — character-level OCR errors are served as extracted, not proofread against the print.
- The D.L. footnote strip is a measured-geometry heuristic plus a frozen audited page list (dl1-loeb-v1): 132 pages had bottom apparatus blocks stripped (385 lines); 38 doubtful bottom blocks were deliberately SERVED (leak-over-loss law), so a residual minority of pages may retain fragments of Hicks's apparatus voice inside the episode text.
- Episodes are chapter-unit (Tac. Hist. book.chapter) and page-unit (D.L.); section-level subdivisions are not carried.
- Episode token counts are whitespace word counts, not linguistic tokens.
